The short answer

Claude for Startups is Anthropic's program for early-stage companies. Startups founded in the last five years, or funded in the last two, can apply through the Claude Console for $1,000 in API credits (valid for six months), a free year of Claude Team for up to five Premium seats with Claude Code and Claude Fable 5.1 included, up to $45K in partner offers, office hours every other week and invitations to events. Most applications are decided within minutes.

What you get

Anthropic values the Claude products and credits at up to $7,000: five Premium Team seats at their $100-a-month list price for a year, plus the $1,000 in credits. The partner offers and VC credits come on top.

Eligibility

Who qualifies for Claude for Startups

The bar is age or recent funding, not a particular investor. Bootstrapped companies can apply alongside venture-backed ones.

  • Founded in the last five years, or raised funding in the last two
  • Any stage: bootstrapped, pre-seed and venture-backed companies can all apply
  • A Claude Console account
  • A company email address on the same domain as your website
  • A short description of what you're building

Read this before you apply

  • Use your work email. The application expects an address on the same domain as your company website. A Gmail address won't match.
  • Time it. The credits expire six months after they're granted, so apply when you're ready to build, not months before.
  • Credits are for the Claude API itself. They're used through the Claude Console and don't apply to Claude on Amazon Bedrock or Google Cloud Vertex AI.
  • The Team year is for new Team customers. If your company already pays for Claude Team, that part of the offer won't apply.
  • Some regions are excluded. Anthropic's official terms exclude companies in Belarus, China, Cuba, Iran, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, Sudan and Syria, and in the Crimea, DPR and LPR regions of Ukraine.

Step by step

How to apply for Claude for Startups

The whole process runs through the Claude Console. Have your company website and a two-line description of your product ready.

  1. Check you qualify

Your company was founded in the last five years or raised money in the last two, it has a live website, and it isn't based in an excluded region.

  2. Sign in to the Claude Console with your work email

Create or open your account at platform.claude.com using an address on your company's domain. The domain should match the website you'll list in the application.

  3. Fill in the startups application

Add your company details and a short description of what you're building. Be concrete: who the product is for and where Claude fits in it.

    Open the startups application ↗
  4. Wait for a decisionMinutes to 3 days

Most applications are decided within minutes. The rest go to a manual review, which usually takes two to three business days.

  5. Redeem your offers

The API credits are used through your Claude Console organisation, and Startup Stack partner offers are redeemed with codes in the Console. New Team customers can start their free year of Claude Team.

  6. Set a spend limit, then build

The six-month clock starts when the credits are granted. Put a spend limit on your workspace so one bug can't drain them, and book office hours once you have a real question to bring.

How far $1,000 in Claude API credits goes

Model choice is the biggest lever. Below is what $1,000 buys for a typical request of 2,000 input tokens and 500 output tokens, at Anthropic's list prices per million tokens.

Requests per $1,000, by model2,000 tokens in + 500 out, before caching or batch discounts
Claude Haiku 4.5$1 in / $5 out per 1M tokens
≈222K

High-volume classification, extraction, routing and support replies

Claude Sonnet 5$2 in / $10 out per 1M tokens
≈111K

A strong default for most product features and agents

Claude Opus 5.5$4 in / $20 out per 1M tokens
≈56K

Hard reasoning, coding and long agent runs, priced below Opus 5

Claude Opus 5$5 in / $25 out per 1M tokens
≈44K

The previous Opus; compare it with Opus 5.5 before you commit

Claude Fable 5.1$10 in / $50 out per 1M tokens
≈22K

The most capable model, for the problems nothing else solves

Prompt caching and batching, worked throughClaude Sonnet 5: a 20,000-token system prompt reused on every call, plus 1,000 new input and 500 output tokens.
No caching≈21K requests

$0.0470 per request

With prompt caching≈91K requests

$0.0110 per request

Caching + Batch API≈182K requests

$0.0055 per request

Leaves out the one-off cache write (1.25× the input price for a five-minute cache). Batch results arrive asynchronously, so it suits evals, backfills and nightly jobs.

Five habits that stretch your credits

  1. Start small, move up only when it fails. Try Haiku 4.5 first for classification, extraction and routing, and save Opus and Fable for the steps that need them. Anthropic's own pricing docs estimate about $37 per 10,000 customer-support conversations on Haiku 4.5: roughly 270,000 conversations for $1,000.
  2. Cache anything you resend. Cached input is billed at a tenth of the normal input price, so long system prompts, tool definitions and documents should sit at the front of the prompt, unchanged between calls. Prefixes shorter than the model's minimum (4,096 tokens on Haiku 4.5) silently don't cache, so check cache_read_input_tokens in the response.
  3. Batch what can wait. The Message Batches API costs half the normal price and stacks with caching.
  4. Cap your output. Output tokens cost five times as much as input on every model, so set sensible max_tokens limits and ask for concise formats.
  5. Set a spend limit on day one. A runaway loop can burn through credits overnight. Put limits on your Console workspace before you ship.

FAQ

Claude for Startups: common questions

What is Claude for Startups?

Claude for Startups is Anthropic's program for early-stage companies. Accepted startups get $1,000 in Claude API credits, a free year of Claude Team for up to five Premium seats with Claude Code and Claude Fable 5.1 included (for companies new to Team), up to $45K in partner offers through the Claude Startup Stack, office hours with Anthropic's Applied AI team and invitations to events such as Founder House and hackathons.

Who is eligible for Claude for Startups?

Startups founded in the last five years, or funded in the last two, can apply. Bootstrapped, pre-seed and venture-backed companies all qualify. You need a Claude Console account, a company email on the same domain as your website and a short description of what you're building.

How do I apply?

Sign in to the Claude Console with your work email, open the startups application at platform.claude.com/offers/startups-application, and submit your company details with a short description of your product.

How long does approval take?

Most applications are decided within minutes. The rest go to a manual review, which usually takes two to three business days.

When do the $1,000 API credits expire?

Six months after they're granted. Apply when you're ready to build so the clock doesn't run out before you've shipped anything.

Can I use the credits on Amazon Bedrock or Google Cloud Vertex AI?

No. The credits are for the Claude API used through the Claude Console. Usage through Amazon Bedrock or Google Cloud Vertex AI is billed by those clouds and isn't covered.

What do the free Claude Team seats include?

Premium seats, Team's higher-usage tier with five times the usage of a standard seat. Every Premium seat includes Claude Code, and Claude Fable 5 and 5.1 are part of the plan: Fable can use up to half of the weekly usage limit at no extra cost. Premium seats list at $100 per seat per month on annual billing, so five seats for a year are worth up to $6,000. It's Claude Team, not the Max plan, which is a separate plan for individuals.

We already pay for Claude Team. Do we still get the free year?

The free year of Claude Team is for companies that are new to Team. The program page doesn't attach that condition to the API credits or the Startup Stack offers.

Can I get more than $1,000 in API credits?

Yes, if your investor is in Anthropic's VC partner network. Those founders can access up to $100K in additional API credits.

What is the Claude Startup Stack?

A set of discounts and credits worth up to $45K from companies building with Claude, including ElevenLabs, ClickHouse, Granola, Hex, Gamma and Firecrawl. Offers are redeemed with codes in the Claude Console.

Which countries can't apply?

Anthropic's official program terms exclude companies in Belarus, China, Cuba, Iran, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, Sudan and Syria, and in the Crimea, DPR and LPR regions of Ukraine.

Ready to claim your $1,000?

Sign in to the Claude Console with your work email and apply. Most applications are decided within minutes; the rest usually take two to three business days.
